Spiritual Places
Mine is by the ocean. Feet planted in the sand and the feel of it between my toes. The unending breeze, the kind you can lean into. I stand face first to the horizon, my breath deepening as it slows, my chest lifting each time my lungs fill to capacity as I inhale. I breathe out just as deeply as if to expel any hint of what I had been breathing before…….I want to be filled only with the ocean’s breath. I can feel the steady rhythm of my heart slow. I look out across the expanse of the Atlantic to the horizon where the sky and water meet in a hazy line that marks the end of one the beginning of the other. It feels as if it goes on forever. It extends so far beyond what I can see, as if infinity is within my grasp yet it isn’t.
Then it happens. The overwhelming sense, no understanding that I am in the presence of something that is so vast, so great, so beautiful, so far beyond what I am able to comprehend, so grand and magnificent, without equal or master, unable to be taken in by my sight, my mind, my might or imagination, it is to me in that moment being in the presence of something beyond this physical world.
In this place I am left without words, struck by the awe and humility that comes from being in the presence of something unfathomably superior to me (perspective is gained). Yet, I find my self so utterly filled by the happiness of just being there that there is no room left for another thought, care, worry or need.
A Spiritual Place - Where we easily commune with the spiritual world that we are a part of
And so, in what it is, this place bears in its nature the qualities of that which is spiritual. It calls forth something within to stir, to awaken, and to enliven. What is within, our spiritual self (which is by nature of the same spiritual essence as is found in a spiritual place) is stirred to connect and commune with what it is like. This is the way we humans respond in places that facilitate our natural state of being spiritually present and authentic. In them we express and experience the true essence of who we are as spiritual beings.
This is a spiritual place and we need to regularly be in them.
